Aurora Museum

viewWith its flowing, sculptural architecture, the newly opened Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a striking addition to Los Angeles’s Exposition Park. Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects in collaboration with Stantec, the museum brings architecture and landscape together through seemingly floating forms that invite discovery and inspire the imagination.
Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum celebrates the art of visual storytelling, from painting and illustration to comics and cinema. Exhibition design by WHY Architecture gives these diverse forms of expression a coherent spatial setting, allowing the works and their stories to unfold.
The display cases manufactured by Glasbau Hahn carry this flowing design language into the exhibition. Expansive curved glass fronts and softly contoured white plinths form sweeping compositions that help shape the galleries. Slender glass joints and discreet structural details preserve generous views, giving costumes, models and artworks a strong visual presence.
Rounded individual cases and organically shaped openings in the gallery walls create distinctive settings for individual exhibits. The table cases continue this design language through shallow glass covers and softly curved transitions between the display surface and its supporting structure. Light surfaces and focused illumination bring out the forms, colours and textures of the objects on display.
This aesthetic quality is combined with preventive conservation at the highest international level. Precision engineering and careful craftsmanship unite the requirements of exhibition design with the lasting protection of the collection. The result is a series of display cases that give the exhibits space to express their character while supporting their preservation.
